UNESCO holds sub-regional workshop on the serial World Heritage nomination Silk Roads, 2- 5 June 2008 in Xi’an, China

Experts and authorities from ten countries, ICOMOS and UNESCO will meet in Xi’an, China on 2-5 June, to advance the Silk Roads serial nomination to the World Heritage list.

The six states currently involved in the nomination process are Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and China. The other participants in the meeting come from Afghanistan, Iran, Japan and Mongolia.

The workshop objectives are, among others, to support current actions by countries participating in the nomination process in completing the national preparations. The meeting will also select specific routes to be considered for the first serial World Heritage nomination.
