On 13 December 2021, UNESCO Almaty in partnership with the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education, the UyatEmes.kz website and the Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan announced the launch of the “Aspan” chatbot for young people.
The Telegram chatbot “Aspan” is a knowledge database containing answers to questions on adulthood, reproductive health, friendships and romance, family planning, responding to violence, bullying, prevention of HIV, sexually transmitted infections, the use of psychoactive substances and many others. Kazakhstani experts participated in the development of the knowledge database: medical doctors, psychologists, lawyers and researchers, who relied on scientific data so that Aspan could provide only reliable information. To use the chatbot go to Telegram, in the field "Search" find @aspanchatbot and start to communicate in Kazakh or Russian.
«Aspan is still learning to understand and answer questions correctly but will improve these skills as he gains experience with users. Both young people and adults who want to learn more about health, relationships, psychology and adulthood can use the chatbot. Especially useful chatbot may seem to those who are looking for answers to talk about sex with their children, nephews and nieces, brothers and sisters», - noted Karlygash Kabatova, founder of Uyatemes.kz.
“Sex education is an integral part of modern education. That is why I am very glad to see that such useful projects as “Aspan” are being created in our society. I already tested the chatbot and asked some questions. It already contains a lot of useful information. I recommend checking», - commented Medet Esimkhanov, a journalist at Factcheck.kz.
The project is supported by UNESCO, UNAIDS and the Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan.
