On 3 November 2020, UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office in cooperation with UNECE and UN Environmental Programme (UNEP) is organizing an online High-Level Policy Dialogue “Building a Resilient Future in Coalition with Nature in Central Asia”.The primary goal of the Policy Dialogue is a comprehensive discussion on issues around the building a resilient future in harmony with nature in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the “building back better” efforts of the countries of Central Asia region.
This Policy Dialogue will tackle key questions facing Central Asia:
- What are the lessons learnt from the COVID-19 crises in Central Asia region, and our dysfunctional relationship with nature, and how can we “build back better” in harmony with nature?
- How can the countries in the region focus on building resilient societies by celebrating their common heritage and natural capital, while at the same time preserving its diversity, and ensuring its sustainable use for socio-economic development and recovery from COVID-19 and associated crises?
- What role should science-policy interface play in strengthening resilience of people to future pandemics in Central Asia?
The meeting is expected to be attended by the representatives of environment-related national institutions, academia, civil society, UN as well as development partners.
The event will be held in Russian and English with simultaneous translation.
