7 October 2020
Applications for participation deadline is until October 10, 2020.
This year the event is dedicated to girls with special needs.
In this regard, the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office, in cooperation with a number of representatives of the creative industries of Kazakhstan, is launching the #GirlsCreArt2020 project, dedicated to girls with special needs from all Central Asian countries, with the aim of expanding their opportunities and improving knowledge in certain creative professional sectors. The course also is directed to foster dialogue between the creative industries sector and girls to build their more equitable, brighter and more successful future.
Empowering girls through the social and economic opportunities that cultural and creative industries can offer is at the heart of the 2005 UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions. This includes helping young women and entrepreneurs gain access to management and marketing training, equipping them with the skills and techniques they need to run successful creative ventures. Moreover, girls will be able to develop artistic and creative skills that can foster the development of more dynamic creative sectors, to strengthen the development of professional associations, networks and alliances for young girls who are specialists in the field of culture and creativity, and to raise awareness among youth of the contribution of culture to development.
In addition, in line with the UNESCO Operational Strategy for Youth 2014-2021, special attention continues to be paid to youth, in particular young girls who are creators and cultural professionals.
Regardless of existing stereotypes and prejudices, UNESCO Almaty believes that girls with special needs are endowed with unique creative abilities and bring their own special colors to fashion, writing, cinema and other creative fields of activity. Young participants of the #GirlsCreArt2020 course will allow us to prove once again that their capabilities, like the entire creative world, have no boundaries, discrimination and stereotypes. Here, every look, every contribution and creative understanding of today's reality are invaluable.
