Kazakhstan: Journalists for Media Independence and Safety of the Profession

• UNESCO promotes the freedom of expression and the right to information and strengthened capacities and raised awareness to enhance norms and policies related to freedom of expression, press freedom, the safety of journalists, including women journalists, and the right to access information, online and offline within its mandate.
• UNESCO cooperates with the Member States, media institutions, and civil society organizations that have conducted awareness-raising initiatives on freedom of expression and the right to information (commemorations of World Press Freedom Day (WPFD); the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists (IDEI); and the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) As well as involving Member States, media institutions and civil society organizations that are taking steps to implement the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity, with particular attention to the safety of women journalists.
